Boss Paul Cox reassures Barrow fans that he is “committed” following talks with Hartlepool United

boss has reaffirmed his commitment to the Bluebirds after he spoke to about becoming their new manager.

Pools, relegated to the , were granted permission to speak to Cox – a Conference winner with Mansfield Town in 2012-13 – but no deal could be reached.

The New Saints boss Craig Harrison was later confirmed as Hartlepool’s new boss, leaving Cox to continue Barrow’s preparations for next term.

The Bluebirds finished seventh and seven points clear of the play-offs last season and will be hoping to mount a stronger challenge next time around – with Cox saying he is fully focused on the club.

In a statement, Cox said: “Over the last few days there has been some speculation as to my future with .

“I would like to reassure supporters of the club that I am, and always have been, committed to Barrow AFC.

“After speaking with Paul Casson (chairman) I am fully focused on the plan going forward, with a strong desire to build our club.

“It is very flattering for both the club and I to be receiving interest from other clubs for both players and myself. However, I have no plans to leave Barrow AFC.”
Casson added: “Hartlepool acted correctly and asked permission to speak to him concerning their management vacancy. I personally don’t believe I have the right to deny any individual the right to pursue any opportunity so I gave it, as I would for any employee of Barrow AFC.”Paul has a contract with Barrow AFC through 2019 and so were anything to happen, would need to request a release from that. He did not.

“Hartlepool gave it their best effort and always behaved appropriately, but at the end of all that, which in reality wasn’t much, Paul remains our manager.”
