Hartlepool United boss Craig Harrison hopes ‘winning mentality’ will lead to instant EFL return

NEW boss Craig Harrison wants to bring a winning mentality to the club and is targeting an instant return to the League.

The 39-year-old arrived in the North East following a highly successful spell in Wales with TNS in which he recently secured the club’s sixth consecutive league title, and won the Welsh Premier League’s Manager of the Year award.

He will be tasked with turning Hartlepool’s fortunes around after the club’s 96-year stay in the Football League came to an end.

Pools, installed as joint third favourites for promotion from the , now have a boss that has won plenty in his brief managerial career so far.

And he wants to increase that haul during his stay at Victoria Park – his first manager’s job in England after dominating in Wales.

Harrison told BBC Wales Sport: “Hopefully I’ll bring that winning mentality to Hartlepool.

“We want to get promoted at the first time of asking, but just as important is that we’re building a solid foundation along the way as well.

“The (Hartlepool) opportunity arose and I thought it was the right time to go and have a fresh challenge somewhere else.

“Everything just fits – the geographic location, facilities, the ambition of the club with new owners and new investors and the big fan base.

“I’m an ambitious person, driven on through having a shorter football career than what I should have had.”
