DARREN MURPHY has had his Macclesfield Town contract cancelled by mutual consent.
The Irish midfielder joined the Silkmen in January this year following spells playing in England with Stevenage and Port Vale.
However, he did not make a senior appearance for the Blue Square Bet Premier club and requested his deal be terminated so he could return to his native Ireland.
Speaking about the 27-year-old’s departure, Macc boss Steve King said: “He’s a great lad and a good player so it’s a shame he’s not been able to show that with us.
“He has made the request to return to Ireland for personal reasons and returns there with our best wishes, both now and for the rest of his career.”
