GARY MILLS says he feels Gateshead is “the right place to be” after putting an end to speculation linking him with the managerial vacancy at Forest Green Rovers.
Rovers made two approaches to talk the Heed boss but was rebuffed by chairman Graham Wood.
And Mills, who led York City to promotion from the Conference and FA Trophy glory in 2012, says he is fully committed to the north east outfit.
Speaking on Monday, he said: “I’m very happy at Gateshead and I want to stay and get the club back where the chairman wants it to be, the Football League.
“It’s not been a nice few days when the news broke about Forest Green’s interest. Obviously it was flattering and we all know what Forest Green are hoping to do in the next few seasons.
“But I’ve come to Gateshead to do a job. I feel it is the right place to be. Everyone makes decisions in life and I see no reason to go from here as it feels right.
“It’s gone great so far. We’re trying to change a few things on and off the field, I’m ambitious and want to do well.
“Forest Green is a club with financial backing better than some League Two and League One clubs but it’s not always about that and I’m at Gateshead for the right reasons.
“I’m absolutely loving it here. It’s a fantastic area, a fantastic Football Club and we’ve got everything here to succeed and we want to go places.
“I’m looking forward to the future. It was an opportunity for me personally to have gone to Forest Green but I’ve been in the game a long time and it’s right for me to stay at Gateshead.”
