THE Football Association have accepted a request from the Step 5 and 6 Northern League to extend their season for a week.
Some clubs, including FA Vase quarter-finalists Morpeth Town, have over 20 games left to play with the extreme weather over the New Year period causing a backlog of fixtures.
And the Northern League have announced their season will be extended until Saturday, May 7, with further extensions still possible.
A league statement said: “The FA has approved a season extension from April 30 to May 7, following a request from the league.
“The chairman and vice-chairman of the FA’s leagues committee have also said that they will consider a further extension in early March if the situation regarding a fixture backlog continues to deteriorate.”
