Ex-Football League striker Tim Sills signs for Blackfield & Langley

WESSEX League Premier side Blackfield & have pulled off a coup, signing experienced former League striker Tim Sills from .

The 36-year-old had been with the Southern League Premier Terras for the past two years and combined his playing duties with assisting boss Jason Matthews.

However, a deal for next season didn’t materialise and Sills has decided to drop down two steps as a player-coach for village side Blackfield & Langley.

The Watersiders finished third in the Wessex Premier last term behind and and will be hoping the addition of Sills will give them an added boost heading into next season.

Sills has been one of the lower leagues’ most prolific scorers over the past two decades after starting his career with Camberley Town, and .

A move into the Conference with Aldershot followed before he was signed by League Two side Oxford United for £50,000 in 2006.

He enjoyed a fruitful spell with Torquay United from 2007-2010, scoring the second goal in the Conference play-off final as the Gulls won promotion at the expense of Cambridge United.

The striker would later return to Non-League with Aldershot, Basingstoke, Bashley and Gosport Borough, helping the latter to the final in 2014.

He has spent the last two seasons with Weymouth but the ex- man has now moved onto pastures new and is excited about the new campaign.

Sills tweeted: “Delighted that next season I will be playing for the ambitious FC as player/coach. A new adventure begins.”

Weymouth boss Matthews told the Dorset Echo: “Tim and I were in negotiation for probably five or six weeks and we couldn’t come to an agreement that was right for both parties.

“I want to put on record my thanks to Tim. I feel he was a fantastic assistant and brought loads to the table. He will be sorely missed.”
