FORMER winner Daniel Moore has signed a three-year contract as manager of club Shildon – a move chairman David Dent has described as a “massive step forward”.

Moore, known as Bobby in the North East, replaced Gary Forrest as Shildon boss in January, stepping into his first managerial role.

No stranger to the Railwaymen, Moore captained the club to a Northern League and Cup double last season.

Shildon are currently third in the table this season behind and and Moore has impressed enough since taking over to warrant a long-term deal.

An FA Vase winner with in 2012-13, Moore will continue to be assisted by former Middlesbrough and player Micky Barron.

Chairman Dent said: “Securing Dan for a further three years is a massive step forward for the club. We have some exciting plans on and off the field and Dan supported by Mickey Barron is integral to realising our on-field ambitions.

“The board has a challenge to give Dan a competitive budget and as an entire club we are up for this. A major sponsor has been retained for the next three years and Platinum club members are being secured. We also are looking to strengthen our board with the appointment of a local businessman.

“We of course need the support of the town in coming through the gates and this coming season is no different. We are on a journey here and I would ask the local community to get behind us.

“Off the field I have commissioned an architect to look to develop plans for a new clubhouse and I am hopeful we will be in a position to submit a planning application in the pre-season.

“We are currently appraising tenders for our new stand and subject to confirmation of Foundation work we are on course to start building work during the summer with it being completed before Christmas. All this work establishes our infrastructure which is vitally important to creating a sustainable community club.

“These developments will cost us something in the region of £250,000 and we need the support of everyone to make them happen. There will be a range of sponsorship opportunities that we will present in the near future, including a bucket collection around the ground.

“These are exciting times for the club, I’m really confident about the future and I look forward to the birth of a new era growing both the club and the team.”
