MACCLESFIELD TOWN have sacked manager Steve King and his assistant Pablo Asensio.
Former Lewes, Northwich and Farnborough boss King took over as Silkmen boss in May last year and got off to a decent start to the Blue Square Bet Premier campaign.
However, since the first few weeks of the season they have never looked like challenging for automatic promotion. They now they lie 12 points off the play-off places and are destined for another year at Non-League level.
King has paid the price for that but does leave Moss Ross with some good memories of what has been a historic season for the Cheshire outfit.
The Silkmen enjoyed a fantastic run in the FA Cup, beating League One club Swindon Town and Championship leaders Cardiff City to reach the Fourth Round for the first time in their 139-year history.
They hosted Wigan Athletic in Round Four but were beaten 1-0 by the Premier League club.
Macclesfield have placed youth team manager John Askey in charge of first team affairs on a temporary basis.
