THE Football Association will be considering a new league for Premier League and Championship club’s B teams on Wednesday – with plans suggesting it would be sandwiched between League Two and the Conference Premier.
The proposals are part of FA chairman Greg Dyke’s plans for the future of the England national team but they have incensed people involved in the Non-League game.
It aims to follow in the footsteps of other European countries such as Spain, France, Netherlands and Germany who all have B teams playing in their league system.
Another option being discussed is to merge League Two and the Conference Premier with the B sides to form two regional leagues.
It is understood that most Premier League and Football League clubs are in favour of the concept but it’s unlikely Non-League teams will be share the same view.
Concord Rangers chairman Anthony Smith said: “Just another kick in the teeth for Non-League football! #Madness. We have helped many pro clubs by using their youngsters at Ryman and Conference level on loan why would we need another level?”
Oliver Ash, co-owner of Maidstone United, said: “English football has more extensive professional leagues than other countries. Let the reserves play with each other.”
Former Premier League man Glen Little, now at Ryman Premier champions Wealdstone, added: “What a ridiculous idea #notconvinced”
