CONCORD RANGERS have appointed Adam Flanagan as new manager – just days after he guided Brentwood Town to Ryman North play-off glory.
Brentwood hammered Thurrock 5-0 on Sunday to win promotion to the Ryman Premier.
But the lure of the vacancy at the Step 2 Beachboys was too much to resist for the former Folkestone, Dartford and Billericay player.
The 37-year-old, who was joint-boss at Brentwood with Danny Dafter, has big shoes to fill after Danny Cowley was last week unveiled as the Braintree’s new boss.
Cowley oversaw the rise the Canvey Island outfit’s rise from Step 5 before establishing them at Step 2.
But chairman Ant Smith insists there is no pressure on the incoming Flanagan, who has also played for Concord.
He said: “I am very pleased as he was my first gut instinct for the job and he is someone who I believe will fit well here.
“The fact that Adam had a short spell with us under Danny Cowley mans that he knows what our club is all about and that will help him settle in.
“I am very confident the players will also be happy to work with him because he was a respected player and knows this level of the game well.
“As always there will be no pressure put on Adam other than to carry on the fantastic journey we find ourselves on at Concord.”
Flanagan said: “I was gutted as a player that I couldn’t have been a part of what they achieved when I went there. Now I go back as manager – it’s unbelievable.”
