Garry Hill departs Woking with club ‘not in a position’ to offer the boss a new contract

GARRY HILL has departed Woking after six years at the club with the Cards saying they are unable to offer him a new deal as takeover talks are at an advanced stage.

The Cards have consolidated at Step 1 since then and the final day draw at the Daggers last Saturday confirmed their National League status for another season.

There had been speculation over whether Hill would still be in charge for next term and the club confirmed he wouldn’t be offered a new deal on Thursday evening.

The Cards say they will “never be able to repay” Hill and his assistant Steve Thompson but that, because of the takeover talks, they were not in a position to hand him a new contract despite the fantastic job he has done.

A statement from chairman Rosemary Johnson said: ‘The board of Woking Football Club is in negotiation with a new investor.

“We are confident that this investment will secure the long term future of the club and are about to enter the final stages of these negotiations. As a result, the board are not in a position to offer a new contract to the present management team.

“The supporters, staff, volunteers and board of Woking FC will never be able to repay the debt we all owe to Garry Hill and Steve Thompson for everything they have achieved since first joining us over six years ago and we thank them profusely for all they have done for us.”
