FOREST GREEN owner Dale Vince reckons getting into League One will be “easy” after Rovers became a Football League club for the first time.
Mark Cooper’s side made the most of some slack first-half defending from Tranmere at Wembley on Sunday to put the favourites on the back foot in the National League promotion final.
Kaiye Woolery’s double and a Christian Doidge effort put them 3-1 up at the break and they defended brilliantly in the second half to frustrate Tranmere.
Rovers saw out the game to secure their League Two spot for next season, 12 months after they suffered heartbreak against Grimsby Town under the famous arch.
They’re celebrating this time around, however, and Vince says promotion again should be much more straight forward with three teams going up automatically from the fourth tier.
“I didn’t feel particularly low after last season but today has just been fantastic – it’s like a dream come true,” Vince told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
“It was an awesome performance and Tranmere hardly got a sniff in the second half. You’re always going to get sniping but I don’t hear a lot of the hate.
“Our budget isn’t anywhere near as big as people say it is. Tranmere’s chairman was in the press saying they had a budget of £2million – that’s easily double ours.
“Getting out of this league is so difficult, with just one automatic spot – and we’re out. Getting into League One, I do think will be easy. There are four slots.
“Some people say we’re crazy to dream of the Championship but we’ve taken the first big step. That’s fantastic.”
