TAMWORTH have signed Ellis Deeney from rivals , the midfielder penning a long-term deal with the Lambs.

Deeney, who served as Worcester’s club captain, joined City in January 2012 and has been a regular in the side since then.

However, has now moved onto pastures new after City agreed a nominal fee for his services. Worcester will also receive 20 per cent of any subsequent transfer from Tamworth.

Lambs boss Andy Morrell was understandably delighted to bring in Deeney, who was formerly with Aston Villa as a youngster.

“He is someone that we have been monitoring for some time and a lot of hard work, by everyone, has gone into getting this deal done,” Morrell said.

“He is a strong, confident and competitive midfielder who possesses a vast range of passing and has led by example each time I have seen him play.

“I am sure that he will be a huge success here at . A number of clubs from higher levels were interested in him, so it is a real coup that he has joined us.

“The length of the deal shows not only our belief in him, but also his commitment to Tamworth and our plans for the future.”

Worcester joint-boss Carl Heeley added: “Ellis has been a solid performer for the club for a number of seasons now and we will always be grateful for his loyalty when most of his team-mates left the club and the end of the St George’s Lane era.

“He has struggled for form of late and not been his normal self and we were all very disappointed in his actions after being substituted last week.

“We discussed the situation on Monday and it was clear that Ellis did not want to be at the club and he felt he needed a change hence the transfer being made.

“It is disappointing to lose a player who has led us to some great memories over the past two seasons but we now require every single player to be committed to the same cause of climbing the league table.”
