DANNY NEWTON says he will be living out his “dream” after signing for League Two side Stevenage following an eye-catching season with .

The former striker bagged 29 goals in the North for the Lambs, making him the division’s second top scorer.

He was heavily linked with a move into the League and he was then invited to join the V9 Academy started by Leicester City and England star Jamie Vardy.

Newton attend a week-long training camp at Manchester City’s Etihad Campus earlier this month and he has now been rewarded with a Football League shot.

The 26-year-old, who has signed a two-year deal at Broadhall Way, was named Manager’s, Players’ and Fans’ Player of the Year last season at Tamworth.

“I did well last season in the Conference North and I’m really grateful to be given the chance to show what I can do in the Football League,” Newton told Stevenage’s website.

“I was very consistent for Tamworth and then had the V9 Academy who I also want to thank because that has put me in the shop window.”

Newton, who is leaving his job as a maintenance engineer, added: “It’s a hard job and takes its toll on you when you’re playing football as well.

“I don’t think it really compares to waking up every morning and living out my dream of being a professional footballer.

“It will take some hard work (to get up to League Two level) but I back myself to make it and I’ll work extremely hard.”
