NIKKI BULL has resigned as boss of South strugglers with new investment set to come into the club “in the next few weeks”.

The former goalkeeper took charge of the club in December 2015, replacing veteran boss Terry Brown after he had guided the club to promotion back to Step 2.

Bull just about kept Gate in the – the Kent club staying up by one goal – as they started to struggle following benefactor Bob Laslett’s exit.

The ex-Aldershot and Wycombe stopper signed a two-year deal as Margate boss in April but the club have endured a tough season amid serious financial concerns.

Bull’s side have lost 16 National League South games in a row and have scored just three times during that awful run.

Margate are bottom of the table and nine points adrift of safety and Bull has decided to quit as manager following Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at .

Bull, whose assistant Steve Brown will take over as caretaker boss, told Margate’s website: “As everybody has been aware the club has experienced severe financial problems over the past six months and I am proud that during this time we have managed to not only keep the club in business but also stabilise it.

“[We’ve] met the financial issues head on and resolved them in the correct manner to the point that now the club is an attractive proposition for new investors to purchase the club.

“With the takeover nearing completion I feel that it is in everyone’s best interests that the new owners bring in a fresh management team to lead the club forward into an exciting new period.

“Despite the constant off the field problems that have I have encountered and had to endure I have always conducted myself with dignity and always made decisions that put the club first.

“Results on the pitch have not been good enough but given the resources I have had to work with I am proud of the players’ efforts and commitment over the past few months that have enabled us to remain competitive in the games that we have played.”
