Truro City’s new stadium plans dealt huge blow as developer says project isn’t “viable”

TRURO CITY‘S plans to move into their new stadium next season have been dealt a huge blow after the developer told chairman Peter Masters that it was “no longer financially viable”.

The White Tigers have been told they must leave their Treyew Road ground at the end of the current campaign with it set to be turned into a retail shopping park by owners Helica.

The club were hoping to move into their proposed new £6.2m Silver Bow stadium, set to be funded as part of the deal to develop Treyew Road, next season.

However, that looks like it won’t be happening and chairman Masters says he has received some bad news regarding the future of the development, with its planning permission running out on July 28.

“The developers at this time are telling me that the whole project at Silver Bow is no longer financially viable, which is a massive statement to make,” he told BBC Radio Cornwall.

“I’ve been working with them [developers] to try and make it viable and we’ve been working very hard over the last six weeks to find a solution.

“We are now into the end game of everything, it’s got to be sorted out. We must have a football ground in Truro to get the infrastructure in place.”

Truro must have a deal in place for a ground to use as their home next season by the end of March, giving them a week to get something sorted.

Masters is confident of putting something in place by the end of next week with Torquay United‘s Plainmoor ground a possibility.

“I’ve got to say it is very worrying off-field and it is a distraction,” the chairman added. “By the end of next week I’m hoping to release something which will us the place where we are playing.

“If the decisions are not made in the favour of Truro City, there won’t be any Truro City around.”
