JAMIE SMITH has joined Eastbourne Borough from their Conference South rivals Dover Athletic.
Smith, 22, is a product of the Crystal Palace youth system and signed a professional deal with the Eagles in 2008.
After that one-year deal expired he went on trial at Brighton & Hove Albion and was taken on by the Seagulls shortly before they appointed Gus Poyet as manager.
The midfielder made his senior debut for the Sussex outfit in August 2009 and went on feature a further 13 times before leaving the Amex midway through the 2011/12 season.
He subsequently linked up with Leyton Orient, finishing the League Two campaign with the O’s but only making one appearance in their colours.
Smith signed for Dover over the summer but did not get the game time he had hoped for at the Crabble and has now moved to Priory Lane.
Speaking about his switch, Boro boss Tommy Widdrington told the club’s website: “I was aware of Jamie during the close season just gone, and was interested in bringing him here then, but he opted to go to Dover.
“Things have obviously not worked out for him in Kent but I am delighted that he has agreed to join us at Priory Lane for the rest of this season, and look forward to working with him over the coming months.”
