From his sick bed to Kidderminster’s red carpet for Simon Grantham

ILLNESS was not enough to prevent Simon Grantham from enjoying his big day out after the fan won tickets and exclusive treatment to the Harriers’ game against last weekend.

Grantham won the recent competition posted in which gained him access to Aggborough’s hospitality suite.

And while Grantham’s beloved Harriers were defeated 1-0 after Luke George’s second-half strike, the 56-year-old still had a day to remember.

Grantham told The : “I’m just getting over the flu so I wasn’t feeling 100 per cent but that didn’t detract from the day, because I love my . I really enjoyed the day and I can’t fault it at all apart from the score but you can’t legislate for that!

“It made my day when I received the email to say I won so I would like to thank The NLP and Vanarama. I was going to take my wife but we both came down with illness and unfortunately she still wasn’t feeling great.

Genuine

“I still had a really enjoyable day though. It was great because when you go as a fan you just go and sit in the stand but the corporate aspect is completely different and I really enjoyed it.

“There was a meal laid on and that was brilliant. I was amazed the game was on at first because Worcester’s game at the same ground two days previously was abandoned because the pitch was like a quagmire.”

And while the game provided few bright spots for Grantham, the treatment didn’t end there as he met a couple of the Harriers’ stars.

Grantham added: “I had photos with Harry the Hawk, the Harriers mascot and also with Jared Hodgkiss and , who are both Harriers full-backs.

“They are lovely blokes and were so welcoming, even after a defeat. Jared apologised live on radio a few weeks back after being sent off and that just shows how genuine he is, but they were both brilliant.

“They were coming back in from their warm down, but they were really nice when I met them. They were upset after losing but it was great to meet them and they put the result aside when chatting with me.”
