KEITH MCMAHON has quit as manager of Ryman North side Thamesmead Town after 11 years at Bayliss Avenue.
McMahon stepped up from his assistant manager role in 2006 and in only his second year in charge, led the Mead to the Kent League title and promotion to the Ryman League.
More success followed as in 2012-13, McMahon’s men secured an unlikely promotion to the Ryman Premier after a play-off final victory over Maldon & Tiptree on penalties.
Unfortunately for Town, their first season at Step 3 ultimately ended in relegation back to the Ryman North after finishing 22nd, just three points adrift of safety.
The club have had an inconsistent start to life back at Step 4 and McMahon has resigned with Mead in 14th, 18 points off the play-offs. He will, however, take charge of Saturday’s game against Wroxham before leaving.
McMahon, who also resigned as a director of the club, said: “It’s been a really really hard decision to make what with me being here for 11 years. I’ve just had enough with so much of the off field stuff away from the club.
“It’s the toughest decision that I’ve ever taken. It will let me spend more time with my family. I’ve had some great times at the clubs and there have been the lows too of course, but over all its been a joy.
“I’ve got people around me now who are more than just friends – I consider them to be part of my extended family, and but now really is the time to move on.”
