National Game Awards – All About Ballerz Golden Boot: John Mills

ALL ABOUT BALLERZ GOLDEN BOOT – JOHN MILLS ()

EVERY striker would dream of a season similar to that of John Mills’ but the Didcot Town forward put his good form down to ‘a bit of luck’ after winning the All About Ballerz Golden Boot.

Mills found the net 56 times this season, including an incredible eight hat-tricks and an even more remarkable five in one match against Bishops Cleeve.

He notched an astonishing 47 goals in the league and even found time to bang in seven in the as Didcot reached the first round.

Add the two he got in the Red Insure Cup and Mills’ total tally of 56 means he beat ‘s Ross Allen’s tally of 54 last season and he was the top scorer in the top four tiers of .

Mills said: “It’s not something I expected to get at the start of the season. Halfway through the year I realised it was going to be a bit of a special year and I just made sure I kept it going, but you have to have a bit of luck on the way.

“I got 57 if you include all competitions but I’m not a stat man. Every striker knows how many goals they get each season, especially when it starts creeping towards your targets. You then adjust your targets and I kept hitting them.

“I got 21 last year and my target was 30 this season and I got that close to Christmas. I reset another target to 50 and when I hit that, I still had four or five games left so I tried to get to 60 but it wasn’t to be.

“Right from the start of the season I was full of confidence. After scoring a few, defenders and opposing teams become a bit more wary of you so it makes the achievement that bit sweeter.”
