CARL MAGNAY has turned down a new deal at Grimsby Town to move into the Football League with Hartlepool United.
Magnay had a fantastic season and was named the Mariners’ player of the year after making 42 appearances and scoring one goal.
The versatile defender joined Grimsby after two seasons at fellow Vanarama National League club Gateshead but will be playing in the Football League next season.
The Mariners just missed out on a return to the Elite 92, losing on penalties in the promotion final to Bristol Rovers at Wembley.
The 26-year-old former Chelsea and Leeds youngster will link up with Pools boss Ronnie Moore, while several other League clubs were reportedly interested in his services.
