“I can really relate to him and the chance to work together again was very appealing. This is a big club in the wrong League and my aim is to help them get back to where they belong.

“There are some strong teams in the league, but I am up for the challenge. I’ve scored goals at this level before and with the squad that is being assembled here, I hope that I can do it again.”

Morrell added: “I am really pleased to have Elliott on board. We lacked someone who could put the ball into the box last season, but we certainly have that now.

“It’s fair to say that he lost his way a bit last season, but he is eager to enjoy his again and I know that he turned down some good offers from elsewhere to come to us.

“I am looking forward to working with him again and I will be looking to get his confidence up and see him firing on all cylinders again. He has done it at this level before and I know he can be a big success here.”
