CHELTENHAM TOWN have added two new forwards in the shape of experienced Danny Wright and youngster Billy Waters.
Wright, 30, has plenty of Non-League know-how having turned out for Histon, Cambridge United, Wrexham, Forest Green, Gateshead and last season Kidderminster.
Harriers were keen to re-sign the forward but he has instead opted to join Gary Johnson’s side as they gear up for their return to Non-League.
“I’m very pleased to be able to bring Dan in because he’s an experienced pro who has been there and done it,” Johnson said.
“If you’ve got to go to war then it’s best that you go with someone who has already been. He’s got plenty of experience in this league.
“He’s a round peg in a round hole for us because he’s something we didn’t have – a target man. He’s 6ft 2ins and very good in the air. I made a couple of bids for him when I was at Cambridge and he was back at Histon in his early 20s.
“He’s still producing and still scoring goals. He knows a lot about me and the players we signed. The whole group’s aim is to get themselves and Cheltenham Town into the Football League.”
Also arriving at Whaddon Road is fellow striker Waters, 20, who made 15 starts and 15 substitute appearances for League One side Crewe Alexandra last season.
“I’ve watched him play quite a few times and I was surprised he didn’t stamp himself more on the first team at Crewe,” added Johnson.
“He’s got some real quality and can be a playmaker just behind the forwards. He can also play up front or out wide so he gives us options. I think he’ll be a really good team player but he’s also got an end product.”
