LUTON TOWN have appointed John Still as their new first team boss.
Still, 62, leaves his role as manager of League Two club Dagenham & Redbridge to take over at Kenilworth Road.
He had been with the Daggers since 2004 and twice led them to promotion – firstly from the Conference in 2006/07 and then via the League Two play-offs in 2009/10.
The London-born boss’ move to Bedfordshire will cost Luton a small fee, as explained by a statement on the Dagenham & Redbridge official website.
The statement said: “John had two offers on the table for his services and was given permission by the board of directors to talk to Luton Town at the weekend. He has thought over the proposal from the Blue Square Premier side and has decided to take up the new challenge.
“Under the terms of his contract Dagenham & Redbridge FC were entitled to a large compensation fee from the Hatters but that would have stopped John from being able to make the move.
“In light of the fantastic job he has done for the Daggers, Luton will instead pay a nominal amount up front with further nominal payments depending on their success with John at the helm. The club will also be sending a side to play a pre-season friendly at Kenilworth Road.”
Still, who has also managed at Leytonstone, Maidstone United, Peterborough United and Barnet, takes the Luton reins with immediate effect and will be at his new club’s game with Braintree Town tonight.
The Hatters are without a win this calendar month – a run that leaves them eighth in the Conference Premier, nine points off the play-off places.
