BIRMINGHAM CITY and West Brom legend Geoff Horsfield should be worshipped by both teams when he makes his Midland Alliance debut for Alvechurch against Tipton Town tomorrow.
The 39-year-old has been tempted out of retirement by his friends, the Lye Meadow chairman Richard Thorndike and manager Dean Holtham, after overcoming blood clots on the lungs and pneumonia in January.
Horsfield played for Witton Albion, Guiseley and won the 1997-98 Conference title with Halifax Town before helping both Blues and Baggies reach the Premier League.
He told The Non-League Paper: “It’s going to be a funny one for me because Alvechurch is more towards Birmingham and Tipton is more West Bromwich.
“I’ve had loads of tweets along the lines of ‘I can’t wait to play against you, you’re a Baggies legend and a Blues legend’ and all this, so I’m hoping it’s going to be a good game. I’ve just told them not to kick me in case I have to kick them back!”
