NUNEATON TOWN have distanced themselves from the trouble that took place in the town centre on Saturday and saw 87 people arrested.
Police officers from three local forces were deployed following reports of violence at several pubs ahead of Boro’s Conference Premier game at home to Lincoln City.
Officers began making arrests at the Granby pub at 3.20pm and the total number of individuals taken into custody on suspicion of violent disorder reached 87.
All 87 people have now been bailed and Boro’s CEO Ian Neale has played down any links the perpetrators may have to the football club.
In a statement on the club’s website, Neale said: “Police went into the Granby pub to organise an escort to town for Nuneaton fans, and only three people said they were interesting in going to the match. They were allowed to leave the pub to take a taxi to the ground, which is two miles away from where the arrests were made.
“The Boro is a family club and people who are looking for trouble are not welcome at our ground. Anyone found guilty of any offences today will be banned from the ground for life.
“The club works tremendously hard on community programmes to give young people locally aspiration and opportunities in a working class town and we see ourselves very much part of making positive things happen for the town.”
