VASTLY experienced striker Ade Akinbiyi has joined Colwyn Bay as player-coach.
The 38-year-old, whose former clubs include Norwich City, Leicester City, Stoke City and Burnley, will coach the Seagulls’ forwards while also coming out of retirement and making himself available for selection.
Akinbiyi has amassed over 500 career appearances since making his senior debut for Norwich against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup in 1993.
He has commanded well over £12m in transfer fees over the years and Bay boss Frank Sinclair, who played with Akinbiyi at Leicester, is delighted to have been able to bring someone of his stature to the club.
Speaking to North Wales Weekly News, the ex-Chelsea man said: “It is quite a coup for a club like Colwyn Bay to get him as he still has the ability to be a huge a presence on the football field.
“I expect him to be a real handful for defences at our level and he will be a huge help to our other forwards both on and off the field.”
