JOHN ROONEY has joined Chester on a month’s loan from League Two club Bury.
The 22-year-old striker, who is the younger brother of Manchester United and England star Wayne, signed for Bury this summer but has only featured four times for them this term.
Like his brother, Rooney is a former Everton youngster, though the majority of his senior experience came at Macclesfield Town between 2008 and 2010.
Since then he has spent time with American Major League Soccer clubs New York Red Bulls, where he played alongside Thierry Henry, and Orlando City.
Rooney spent the 2012-13 campaign at Barnsley but did not play a single game for them and was released earlier this year.
Chester boss Neil Young says a player of Rooney’s calibre is just what the struggling Conference Premier side need.
Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “John is a player we looked at in the summer.
“He is a player who has Football League experience and I believe at this time and our current position requires lads with league experience to take us forward.”
