ANDY HUNT has quit as manager of Ryman South strugglers Godalming Town after Monday night’s 10-0 thrashing at the hands of Carshalton Athletic.
Hunt, who joined Godalming from Fleet Spurs in June 2013, brought an end to his three-and-a-half years at Wey Court following the heavy defeat at the War Memorial Sports Ground.
It was the G’s seventh league defeat from eight games this season and leaves the club rock bottom of the Ryman South table.
Former Farnborough, Fleet, Slough and Bognor midfielder Darren Wheeler has been named interim player-manager as the Surrey club search for a new permanent boss.
Departing Hunt said” “After tonight’s (Monday) defeat I have offered my resignation to the club and it has been accepted.
“I’d like to thank everyone who’s been involved in the club whilst I’ve been the manager and truly wish GTFC all the best for the future.
“I’m deeply disappointed with how this season has gone. It has been no lack of effort from the players or my coaching staff but this league, and games at the start, have proved too much so far.
“I hope some fresh blood into the club will turn the club around and keep Godalming at Step 4. This is a lovely club and I hope things turn around.”
A club statement added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank Andy and his team for their effort and commitment over the last three-and-a-half seasons.
“With immediate effect Darren Wheeler will take on the role of interim player-manager until a new full-time manger can be appointed.”
