THE revolution at big spending Billericay Town has continued with former Premier League man Jamie O’Hara signing up while the club have also broken their transfer record for striker Jake Robinson.
Former Tottenham, Portsmouth, Wolves and Blackpool midfielder O’Hara, 30, has put pen to paper on a contract until the end of next season.
Playing in the Championship as recently as last season, O’Hara made three appearances in League One for Gillingham at the start of this season before leaving Priestfield and starring in Celebrity Big Brother at the turn of the year.
Millionaire owner Glenn Tamplin, who is also acting as first team boss, has confirmed that O’Hara has put a clause in the deal meaning he won’t be paid if he gets injured and that he will be free to leave if a club from the Championship or higher comes in for him.
While O’Hara was the marquee signing and revealed to fans on Thursday evening, the club also confirmed the signing of striker Robinson.
Robinson, 30, has netted 25 times in the National League South this season for Hemel Hempstead Town but a bid of £24,000 was enough for the Tudors to agree to sell.
He drops down a division to a Blues side who are now just five points adrift of the Ryman Premier play-off places after a run of eight league wins in 11 games.
O’Hara goes straight into Tamplin’s squad and could play alongside former England international Paul Konchesky, who signed for Billericay earlier this month.
“I’ve had my injuries and had situations that haven’t gone my way,” O’Hara said. “I went on a TV show and after that I had to be realistic on where I was going to play – this was an opportunity I couldn’t refuse.
“I’m only 30 and I feel I’ve still got a lot to offer. I wanted to get out and playing. I’m committed until the end of this season and next season because I had to show that commitment to the owner. I’ve just moved to Essex so it’s local to me.
“If I want to get back into the professional game next season, I’ve got to get playing and get myself fit. I haven’t played a competitive game for a while but I should be able to get around the pitch for 90 minutes.
“Mark Wright is involved in the club who is a good friend of mine and I met with the owner (Glenn Tamplin) and he has big plans for the club.”
