Adriano Moke has been fined and warned about his future conduct by York City after he challenged one of the club’s fans to a fight through social media.
Following the Minstermen’s 4-1 hammering at Curzon Ashton on Saturday, the 28-year-old responded to jibes by supporter Matt Nugent on Instagram.
Nugent commented on Moke’s post-match picture: “you’re a weirdo mush”.
The midfielder responded with: “say it to my face ‘mush'”.
Nugent asked “where and when” with Moke suggesting Leeds, York, Bootham Crescent stadium or the club’s training ground.
Moke then direct messaged Nugent, saying: “Wat u saying then we getting this popping or wat u meet me then or wat mush. Send ur number then u tell me where u are and we get it going then.
“Tell me where to meet you I meet you there today bring who ever ur bringing tools wateva cos I tell ya now ur gunna need it no joke I’m actually being mad serious.”
Nugent replied: “Come park.”
A club statement confirmed Moke had apologised to manager Martin Gray and expressed “sincere regret” for his actions.
Gray commented: “I will not tolerate that sort of behaviour from any player at this football club. Adriano may have been emotional after a poor performance by the team on Saturday but that does not excuse his comments.
“As a York City player, you are representing the club and the wider community and you need to maintain high standards. Adriano accepts that his comments fell below those standards.”
Moke signed a 12-month contract extension in January, which will keep him at the club until 2019.
