Barnet manager John Still has continued preparations for the upcoming season by signing Latvian goalkeeper Rihards Matrevics on a two-year-deal.
The shot stopper was a regular performer for the West Ham U18 side last season and been capped at U21 level for the Latvian National side.
Matrevics began his career with Latvian club SK Babite before making the move to Upton Park.
The goalkeeper. who stands tall at a towering 6’7, has been on trial with Barnet since his release by West Ham this summer and has represented the Bees in a number of pre-season friendlies over the past few weeks.
Speaking to Barnet’s official club website, Still said, “We needed to bring another goalkeeper in. Mark (Cousins) has come in and supporters have seen in pre-season that he’s a very, very good goalkeeper.
“We wanted someone under him, but do you go for an experienced one that can push him all the way or do you go for one that you think can grow.
“Well, we’re fortunate enough to get Rihards, who has recently been at West Ham where I’ve seen lots of him. He’s a Latvian youth international and when the opportunity came to get him, we pushed the button and I’m absolutely delighted.”
