As they prepare for Step 3 football next season, Truro City have caught the headlines with the signing of Democratic Republic of Congo Under-21 international Harlain Mbayo.
The 21-year-old defender, who went through the youth structure at Belgian giants Anderlecht, was on the books at SPL side Abderdeen for the last four years, before finishing the most recent campaign in the Championship with Wigan.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Mbayo, stressed the important role that Paul Wilkinson and his management team played in persuading him to commit to the White Tigers.
“I really thought that playing a season with these managers would be beneficial for me,” said Harlain.
“Under them I’m able to develop and get the game time I want. It’s a good club to be at.”
“I know there is a brand new Stadium on the cards,” he added. “The way the Club is being run at the minute; it’s going in a good direction and can only help my career.”
“I’ve made my plans plain. I want to finish as high as possible and move the Club back to where they belong. I’m trying to finish as high as we can and look for promotion.”
Truro City endured a difficult campaign last season as they slipped out of the National League South, however with players such as Mbayo coming through the door this summer, you wouldn’t bet against the White Tigers making a push for promotion in the Southern League South this year.
