SHELTON PAYNE played a key role in helping Colwyn Bay avoid relegation last season but the North Wales will have to do without him next term following his decision to join Barrow.
The former Chorley, Hyde and Trafford winger arrived at Colwyn in February and went on to score in four of the club’s final six league games – all of which were wins – to help them beat the drop to Step 3.
He was offered a new deal by Bay boss Frank Sinclair but rejected it in favour of a switch to Holker Street.
Payne, 24, has signed an initial six-month contract with the Bluebirds, a deal his manager Dave Bayliss expects to be extended.
Speaking to the club’s website, Bayliss said: “He is as rapid as Jack Mackreth, but he is also a proven Goalscorer and gives us something that we were missing last season.
“He has signed a six month deal to check he settles OK but hopefully we will be extending that long before January, if all goes well.”
