Solihull Moors boss Marcus Bignot leaves to take over at League Two side Grimsby Town

LEAGUE TWO side Grimsby Town have confirmed that boss Marcus Bignot has agreed to become their new manager.

The Moors announced last week that they had allowed Bignot to talk to the Mariners as they did not wish to stand in his way.

The 42-year-old helped transform the Moors both on and off the pitch following his appointment in the summer of 2011.

That transformation culminated in comfortably winning the last season and they are currently nine points clear of the relegation zone in ‘s top flight after a promising start to the campaign.

Bignot’s last game in charge was Saturday’s first round draw at but he will not be in charge of the replay at Damson Park after agreeing to replace Paul Hurst at Grimsby, last season’s play-off winners.

The ex-Birmingham City Ladies boss was lifted into the air by Moors players after the final whistle at Yeovil and he also boarded the supporters’ coaches to thank them for their support.

Considered one of the brightest young managers in Non-League, Bignot will now take the step into full-time , taking over a club sitting just a point outside the League Two play-offs.

Bignot, who was working without a contract at Solihull, said: “I would like to place on record my gratitude to the then chairman Nigel Collins and present incumbent Trevor Stevens for both giving me my first managerial opportunity.

“I’d also like to extend that gratitude to the board and Mike Turl for allowing me to take a football team and go on to build a football club, I’m very proud of not only on the pitch but off it also.

“On behalf of myself and my family, we would like to thank the club and its supporters for making my time here a memorable and successful journey. I can honestly say the Moors will always have a genuine place in my heart.

“Now looking to the future and whoever takes on this squad, they will not only be inheriting a very good group of players but a dressing room full of even better people. This is a group I will always look out for and look back with immense pride in what they achieved for me and Solihull Moors Football Club.”
