‘Grandad’ Steve King has all the moves for Whitehawk

STEVE KING may not be over the hill quite yet, but he’ll be more than happy to re-enact his “grandad dance” on live TV on Wednesday night.

Social media went wild for the manager last Sunday, the former boss trending on Twitter for his terrace jig after the Hawks’ sensational second-half performance secured a late replay at Dagenham.

Trending and trendy, King’s designer clobber was also the talk of cyberspace – even if internet wits cruelly renamed him Harry , with one joker even editing the club’s Wikipedia page to show they are managed by the 90s comedian!

Following the final whistle, King joined his 700 chums behind the goal they had just sucked Jordan Rose’s 95th minute equaliser into. It was a magic moment – but it may just be the start.

If Whitehawk see off Dagenham in Wednesday night’s replay they will travel to Premier League giants Everton in the third round.

Their manager will have his dancing shoes on if they make it to Goodison Park and doesn’t care if the BT Sport cameras capture it all.

Character King said: “I’d like to think I was looking more like Robbie Williams – but watching back I looked more like a Grandad after the game with that dancing. If we win there’s more to come!

“It’s true what they say, with great moments like that you just get taken away by it all. You’re flying and you don’t really know what you’re doing.

“The whistle went and the next thing I know I’m climbing up into the stands, hugging the fans and having a dance and I’m singing along with them.

“I thought we were outstanding in the second half. Of course when you’re in the 94th minute you’re wondering if it’s not going to be your day. But we 100 per cent deserved that goal. We were fantastic.”

Flat out and still recovering, there was important work to do.

“Our legs were hanging off on Tuesday night at ,” King adds. “We wanted the game cancelled or put back like the Conference allowed to after the played Port Vale on the Thursday, but they refused to do it.

“But we’re showing real character. We’ve got it all to do on Wednesday in the replay but we know the rewards that are there waiting – even if the players are banned from saying the word ‘Everton’!”
