DULWICH HAMLET are through to the FA Trophy quarter-finals after demolishing Braintree Town in their replay on Tuesday night.
The Ryman Premier side took the lead against their higher division visitors in the 28th minute through an Ashley Carew penalty but the scores were level at half-time thanks to Jerome Okimo’s header.
Hamlet took control of the game early in the second half and regained the lead through a bizarre own goal as Iron keeper Sam Beasant smashed the ball against his own defender Manny Parry and the ball looped into the net.
Gavin Tomlin’s solo effort made it 3-1 before National League side Braintree went down to ten men as Sean Clohessy saw red.
Sanchez Ming further extended Hamlet’s lead before Parry scored at the right end to reduce the arrears and make it 4-2.
Dulwich had the final say, however, as substitute Jacob Erskine headed home a Ming cross in stoppage time to set up a quarter-final clash against Macclesfield Town.
In the other replay on Tuesday night, FA Cup heroes Sutton United were comfortably beaten at fellow National League side Boreham Wood.
Angelo Balanta’s header put Wood in front early on and midfielder Kenny Davis doubled the home side’s lead just before half-time.
Morgan Ferrier made it three just after the interval and further goals from Anthony Jeffrey and Davis saw Wood run out 5-0 winners. Luke Garrard’s side will welcome National League leaders Lincoln City to Meadow Park in the last eight.
