Ian Baird leaves Sutton United

Ian Baird

Sutton United have announced that caretaker manager Ian Baird has left the club.
Baird was former boss Paul Doswell’s assistant for four and a half years and took over managerial duties following the 52-year-old departure at the end of March.
Chairman Bruce Elliott said: ”Ian has been an integral part of the club’s achievements during his time here, and we are very grateful for everything that he has contributed, including his spell as caretaker manager over the last six weeks of this season. We wish him every success in the future.”
Meanwhile, Baird commented: ”I’d like to thank everyone at the club for their support over four and a half fantastic seasons, where we managed to achieve what we wanted to achieve and better. I’ve said before that it’s a unique club, and in the 39 years I’ve been involved in football I haven’t worked anywhere better. However everything comes to an end, and I think Dos has earned the right to do what is best for him. We’re a partnership, I came with him and I think it’s only right that I leave with him as well. I sincerely wish everyone at the club well in the future.”
Baird leaves the club after they finished in 10th position in the National League table following a 3-0 defeat to Dover Athletic on the season’s final day.
