Woking mascot KC Kitten and Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler led the way on Thursday as the Cards brought some Christmas cheer to sick youngsters spending the festive season at local hospitals.
Along with the National League club’s directors and boss Alan Dowson and his squad, they were busier than ever for the eleventh year running visiting children’s wards at Woking Hospital and St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey after another bumper annual collection of gifts and donations.
The Christmas fund topped more than £1,300 alone in cash donations following a bucket collection at Woking’s 2-1 win over Hartlepool United last Saturday,as well as contributions from all the team management and players.
In addition to donations from the Surrey club’s players and fans, local pubs ‘The Olive Tree’ and ‘Dog and Pheasant’ also contributed £400 from their Christmas quiz nights.
Gifts included new toys and games for every child and the club were also able to hand out game consoles, tablets and even e-readers for the wards to use all year round. And as an added bonus, a copy of the hit new Fifa ’20 video game was donated to each hospital with the game’s commentator, Martin Tyler, in attendance!
A Cards spokesman said: “Thank you everyone for your generosity. Everyone was invited to a game in the New Year and, as ever, it was moving to see how families and children, going through painful times, were encouraged with your help. Thank you everyone!”
