Pascal Chimbonda made a surprise appearance for National League North side Blyth Spartans in their pre-season friendly on Saturday.
The former Premier League defender, who played for the likes of Tottenham, Wigan and Sunderland, came on as a substitute in the final few minutes of Spartans’ 2-2 draw at South Shields.
The 39-year-old was part of the France squad which reached the 2006 FIFA World Cup final and signed for Washington FC of the Ebac Northern League Division One last season.
Blyth confirmed that Chimbonda is not set to sign for the club.
It’s been said on here a few times, but we repeat, Chimbonda is only with the club to keep up his fitness. #HowayBlyth
