Following the announcement of Steve King’s departure from Welling United, it has been revealed that Wings chairman Mark Goldberg will take on the managerial position at the Kent club.
As part of the new structure, Garry Fiore, who previously held the role of Academy Director, will become Director of Football, Hugo Langton will return to the club as First Team Coach, while Paul Barnes and former Charlton Athletic defender Osei Sankofa will also take up coaching roles.
This is not Goldberg’s first foray into management as he has previously sat in the hot seat at Welling’s local rivals Bromley on three occasions.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Goldberg said, “We will be announcing some player signings later this week which will demonstrate that whilst we will be operating on a reduced budget it is still our absolute intention to be very competitive with the aim of pushing above halfway hopefully within sight of the play offs.
“I hope the supporters will get behind the new regime and the new squad for the forthcoming season where we will at least show the highest commitment to maintain your support.”
Welling suffered a heartbreaking end to last season after they lost 1-0 to Woking in the National League South play-off final.
