Billericay Town have added reinforcements to their squad ahead of another push for promotion in National League South by bringing in Gavin Gunning and Craig Robson.
Gunning arrives at New Lodge having most recently represented Forest Green Rovers, for whom he featured 42 times in League Two last season.
The centre-back grew up in Ireland before moving across the boarder to England, joining Blackburn in 2006.
During his time with Rovers Gunning enjoyed loan spells with Tranmere Rovers, Rotherham United and Motherwell, before moving permanently to Dundee United in 2011, where he was named in the Scotland Team of the Year in his very first season.
After three years with the Terrors, the 26-year-old defender had an injury hit season with Championship side Birmingham City, going on to represent Oldham Athletic, Grimsby Town and Port Vale.
Meanwhile, Robson has joined up with Harry Wheeler’s side after leaving Barnet, where he played an important role in helping the National League side reach the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.
The 27-year-old midfielder has previously worn the captain’s armband at Dagenham & Redbridge as well as representing Ricay’s divisional rivals Havant Waterlooville as well as enjoying a spell in Australia with Sorento.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Billericay boss Harry Wheeler said, “I knew we needed more depth in that area of the pitch and Glenn came up to me with Gavin and Craig. these players will strengthen our options and it’s fantastic to have them on board.
“We will switch between two shapes next season and all three will be able to fit into those systems.”
“Gavin has lots of experience in the Football League and was captain as Forest Green Rovers reached the League Two play-offs last season,” confirmed Wheeler.
“Craig is a National League player at the very least. He made more than 40 appearances for Barnet last term and also has experience with Dagenham.”
The club have also announced that former Port Vale midfielder Doug Loft will continue to train with the team, while contractual obligations with a former club are finalised.
