National League South Billericay Town have confirmed the departure of manager Harry Wheeler and the appointment of Jamie O’Hara as his successor
Wheeler’s departure from New Lodge and the appointment of the former Spurs star were confirmed on Monday afternoon following 48 hours of speculation over the role.
Wheeler’s reign had been shrouded in mystery following his absence from the dugout on Saturday as the Essex club were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw at Oxford City.
Town owner Glenn Tamplin and O’Hara were in the charge with Sunday’s NLP exclusively reporting that former Maidstone United boss Wheeler was understood to have had a number of issues surrounding team selection and was temporarily relieved of his management duties.
Monday’s Blues statement read: “We can now confirm that Harry Wheeler has been relieved of his duties and has left the club after a recent meeting with the owner.
“Differences of opinion have led to the decision and the owner feels changes needed to be made. Jamie O’Hara will take control of first team duties and will look to immediately make his mark by looking at bringing in some young talented academy players to add to the good experience we have.”
The Blues added: “From all at the club we wish Harry all the best for the future and we thank him for all his efforts and successes in his time here”
Wheeler, pictured, has left the club before having been relieved of his duties in August 2018, only to make a sensational return after just 147 days.
The ex-Maidstone boss leaves Ricay sitting seventh in the National League South table with 19 points from their opening 11 games. In his first stint in charge, Wheeler guided the club to the Isthmian League title, Essex senior Cup and league cup in 2018.
Tamplin took ownership of the Essex club in 2017 and since then has invested heavily in to New Lodge and the playing staff.
