FORMER Premier League striker and Republic of Ireland international Clinton Morrison has signed for Evo-Stik NPL Premier club Mickleover Sports following a brief spell with Redditch United.

Morrison, 37, signed for Redditch in the summer to play under friend Darren Byfield but, after featuring heavily in pre-season, he lasted just three league games before leaving the club.

Despite scoring in the Southern Premier opener against Chesham United, he departed a week later, citing travelling and personal issues.

The Nottingham-based striker is back in Non-League, however, after signing for Mickleover, with the Derbyshire club closer to his home.

The veteran forward scored more than 150 goals in his 18 years in the League football, as well as nine in 36 internationals appearances.

He was released by League Two side Exeter City at the end of last season and the ex-Birmingham City forward – who had a brief spell with Long Eaton United in 2014 – dropped into Non-League.

Sports boss John McGrath said: “We are very excited to welcome Clinton into the squad as he brings a wealth of experience at the highest level with him, which he will hopefully pass on to the younger members of the team.

“Under our new ownership, we are making good progress on and off the field and we hope to continue this throughout the season ahead.”
