On a night filled with goals and intrigue, it was Stocksbridge Park Steels’ 4-0 thrashing of Chasetown that sounded the loudest in the Evo-Stik South.
Two goals from Richard Stirrup and one apiece from Matthew Reay and Joe Lumsden took Chris Hilton’s side up to third in the table, six points behind leaders Cleehtorpes Town.
Second place Basford United moved level on points with the Owls at the summit with their impressive 3-1 triumph at Spalding United. Martin Carruthers men were two up within 11 minutes thanks to an Elias Humble own goal and a Liam Hearn strike. Gary King replied for the hosts three minutes later but Hearn wrapped up the points in the 66th minute.
Leek Town missed the chance to leapforg Frickley Atheltic as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Bedworth United. Jordan Johnson had put the Blues ahead, only for Jamie McAteer and Khaelleen Bailey-Nichols to seal the points for the hosts.
Gresley couldn’t move off the foot of the table, being beaten 2-1 by Stamford at the Moat Ground. There was no joy for Romulus either, who were well beaten by Newcastle Town – James Lee, Aaron Bott and William Bailey winning it for the Castle.
Loughborough Dynamo are in sixth after their 2-1 victory over Peterborough Sports at the Nanpantan Sports Ground. Joshua Moreman appeared to have won it for the visitors with his 75th minute effort, only for a Karl Demidh penalty and a Sam Thorpe strike to win it for the Moes.
Sheffield FC got a much-needed 3-2 win against Lincoln United, while Alvechurch overcame Market Drayton Town 2-1 at Lye Meadow.
