PREMIER SPORTS GOAL OF THE SEASON
ROMAINE GRAHAM – EASTWOOD TOWN
EASTWOOD TOWN had a season to forget but a sensational solo goal from Badgers centre-back Romaine Graham will live long in the memory.
The 26-year-old’s effort against Stafford Rangers lit up a dreary December afternoon and was deservedly named Goal of the Season.
The goal that secured the Premier Sports-sponsored accolade resembled Ryan Giggs’ famous FA Cup strike against Arsenal in 1999.
Graham won the ball inside his own half, shrugged off a Stafford forward and glided past Rangers’ midfield pair before turning on the afterburners to evade two more challenges and power through on goal.
The calmness of the finish belied the lung-busting run that had preceded it, with Graham slotting home off the inside of the post.
Despite the outstanding nature of Graham’s effort, the Eastwood number five insists it wasn’t even his best goal of 2012/13!
“I actually scored a better one for my Sunday team Trentside last weekend,” he said.“But the goal against Stafford means more to me as it was at a higher level.”
National recognition means he ends a disappointing season on a high.
He said: “Relegation was hard but this goes some way to making up for it. It’s great to win something for the club after a difficult year.”
