CHORLEY boss Garry Flitcroft has told Skelmersdale United manager Tommy Lawson to stop talking about the Magpies – and reckons his rival manager’s “mind games” backfired.
Flitcroft’s men reduced Skem’s lead to just one point at the top of the Evo-Stik NPL Premier with four games still in hand after thrashing them 4-1 at Victory Park on Saturday.
Lawson had previously said that Flitcroft would face difficulties keeping his players fresh for their title run-in after a great run in the FA Trophy.
And following the victory, Flitcroft hit back saying: “I always thought we’d win and we produced an outstanding performance.
“Tommy has been spouting his mouth off a bit of late but we’ve decided to keep quiet. If he’s been playing mind games then it’s backfired on him.
“He’s said that we’ve got tired legs and all the pressure is on us but as a manager you shouldn’t talk about other teams. I don’t think there’s any pressure on us because if we keep winning games we won’t be far away.”
Lawson replied: “I’ve been saying for weeks that this is Chorley’s title to lose and I haven’t changed my opinion.
“They’ve got a real foothold now but they’ve got to play on this pitch every week and that’s a distinct disadvantage.
“They play a very back-to-front game whereas we try to get it down and pass and the pitch didn’t let us do that.”
