KARL COLLEY has been banned from football at any level until October 1 after he went into the stands to try and attack a fan.
The incident occurred after the defender was sent off in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One South game against Coalville Town on January 25, exactly 19 years after Eric Cantona launched a kung-fu kick at a Crystal Palace supporter.
Colley, 30, who was sacked by Goole, claims he was provoked by a fan in the stands before he went into the terraces and threw a punch that appeared to miss.
The incident was caught on video and was later uploaded to YouTube, where it has since been viewed over 450,000 times.
The almost eight month ban is one of the longest handed out by the FA for an act of violence, but falls short of the nine months Cantona was suspended for.
After the incident, Colley admitted he is considering retirement. “After all the media attention this has created, for £100 a week do I want to put myself in a position where I come back to Non-League and get abuse off people?
“The fact is now that people are going to goad me even more.”
