FORMER Leeds and Forest Green Rovers boss Dave Hockaday is confident of turning Kidderminster Harriers’ fortunes around after taking charge on Friday night.
The 57-year-old was in the dugout for the first time on Saturday lunchtime as Kiddy lost 2-1 at Macclesfield in front of the BT Sport cameras.
The Aggborough outfit are still without a win this season and are rock bottom of the Vanarama National League with seven points.
Hockaday faces a big first week in the job as Harriers travel to fellow strugglers Altrincham on Tuesday night before welcoming third-bottom Southport on Saturday.
“The players are low on confidence and we’re bottom of the league, we can’t get away from that,” Hockaday said.
“Winners make things happen, they don’t wait for it to happen and I’m looking for the players to be brave.
“It’s definitely salvageable, I wouldn’t have taken over if it wasn’t. There’s a lot of hard work ahead but we have the potential here to get ourselves out of this and to build for the future.
“To be given the opportunity to get back out on to the grass – that’s something I have been waiting for. I am a coach – that’s what my reputation is and that’s what I am known as.
“Kidderminster have always been a big name at this level and this is a big challenge – it’s one I am relishing and one I am looking forward to.”
