Experienced striker Michael Higdon signs deal with Tranmere Rovers

FORMER Crewe Alexandra, and United striker Michael Higdon has signed for promotion hopefuls Tranmere Rovers until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old forward joins Rovers after leaving League One side Sheffield United at the end of January and brings a wealth of experience to Prenton Park.

He started his career with Crewe but made his name north of the border with Falkirk, St Mirren and Motherwell, picking up the SPL Golden Boot in 2012-13 with 26 goals for the Well.

After a season in with NEC Nijmegen, Higdon returned to England and signed for Sheffield United in 2014. He has scored five times this season, all during a loan spell with Oldham.

Tranmere boss Gary Brabin said: “I’m delighted that we are able to bring such an experienced and talented player as Michael into the squad.

“He is a local lad who fits the bill of what we’ve been looking for. He has been playing at League One level this season and will offer us a different dimension to the excellent attacking options we already have at our disposal.”

Higdon added: “I’m looking for the opportunity to play and am excited for the remaining games. Hopefully I can make an impact.

“I’m looking forward to training with the lads in the coming days. I’ve scored a decent amount of goals throughout my career so hopefully I can come here and do the same.

“Obviously, the aim is to get promoted. If I can get into the team and score some goals to help in keeping Tranmere at the right end of the table, that’s the aim.”
